Call for nominations for the Sir Julius Vogel Awards

Sir Julius Vogel Award nominations for 2004 are now being accepted.

These are awards in professional and fan fields from the 2004 calendar year, voted by the fans and presented at the National Science Fiction convention each following year. In 2004, that will be ICon in Wellington.

You can find full details of the awards at the SFFANZ website (http://www.sffanz.sf.org.nz) or you can request details by post. Please feel free to nominate anyone you feel qualifies, and encourage other people to do the same.

Nominations can be made by ANYONE.

Nominees must be New Zealand citizens or legal Residents of New Zealand at the time the work was released. In the case of group efforts, the majority of people involved must be New Zealand citizens or legal Residents of New Zealand at the time the work was released

Voting is open to members of SFFANZ, and any member of Icon.

Nominations will close Sunday February 13th, 2005.

You can send nominations to sjv_awards@sffanz.sf.org.nz or via post at:

SJV Awards,
P.O. Box 13-574,
Johnsonville,
Wellington,
NZ

When you send your nominations, we would appreciate also being given the contact details for the person or organisation being nominated, if possible. This allows us to contact them and confirm that they wish to accept the nomination.

Below are the current possible categories for the awards.

Categories of awards

Not all of these may be able to be used at present. If it becomes appropriate, then they could be used. SFFANZ will also accept suggestions for nomination categories if voters believe there would be enough nominees for the position.

Special Awards

Generally the special awards are for works not eligible in existing categories. However, Best New Talent CAN be nominated in conjunction with other awards.

Please note that for these categories below, you also need to specify WHY you are nominating the person or organisation. It can be long or short, but we need to know your reasons so that the voters can make their choices based on those reasons.

  • Best New Talent

  • Services to Fandom

  • Services to Science Fiction
  • This is just the list of potential categories. If you want the complete Sir Julius Vogel Awards rules and details, please contact us and we will send them to you.
